Formed in 2005, The Sol Group is a prominent petroleum company supplying fuels, lubricants, bitumen and LPG through an extensive service station network.
The Sol Group is a leading petroleum company, supplying fuels, lubricants, bitumen and LPG through an extensive service station network. Sol also has primary interests in marine, aviation and commercial operations across the Caribbean.
As a prominent petroleum company in the Caribbean region, the Sol Group has achieved a consistent growth since inception. The Sol Group was formed in 2005 through a series of successful acquisitions of Shell’s business in the Eastern Caribbean, Guyana, Suriname and Belize. In 2006 Sol’s acquisition of Shell’s regional operations extended to Puerto Rico. The Republic of Haiti was the next market Sol entered in 2007 with the purchase of Exxon’s assets and the presentation of the very first Sol branded gas station.
In September 2009, Sol made a confident but very characteristic move and acquired Shell’s Aviation business in the Eastern Caribbean. This venture has led to Sol providing fuelling services to renowned international airlines. The extension of Sol’s services into the aviation industry established Sol’s presence as an energy leader in the Caribbean and a vital catalyst in the region’s economy. In November of that same year, Sol signed a sales agreement to acquire Shell’s retail, commercial and aviation businesses in Dominican Republic – thus adding yet another diverse market to the Group’s existing portfolio.
On May 13, 2011, Sol acquired Shell’s business in Dominican Republic, adding the 17th pillar to Sol’s portfolio across the region.
The Group now operates in seventeen countries, in all aspects of the petroleum marketing business. This includes the supply of fuels and lubricants to over 450 Shell and Sol branded retail stations in the region, the provision of aviation fuelling services and the distribution of Shell branded lubricants to commercial customers in the region. Sol provides aviation, commercial fuels and LPG, under its own brand throughout the region.
As the sole distributor of Shell fuels and lubricants in the markets we operate, Sol uses the Shell brand under license. However the presence of Sol branded sites has been increasing, along with Sol branded activity within retail, aviation and commercial operations across the Caribbean.
