With strong performance results coming in from the territory's youth sailors, and the successful achievements of the BVI's athletes during the 2012 season, Sol continues to tie in its fuel sales with support of the community-wide programmes run by the Royal BVI Yacht Club (RBVIYC) and the BVI Athletics Association (BVIAA). During a recent visit from Sol's Barbados based, Group Marketing & Communications Coordinator, Gina Cummins, the company handed over the third quarter's donations to the respective sporting federations.
"We enjoy getting involved with productive, goal-oriented community activities," said Country Manager, Deborah Benjamin. "Sol has been a partner of the BVI Athletics Association since June 2009 and we joined with Nanny Cay to pledge our support of the Royal BVI Yacht Club junior sailing programme in January 2011. We follow the progress of the sailors and athletes and are always pleased to know that we are contributing to the successes of the programmes."
In the partnership agreement with the BVI Athletics Association, Sol makes a contribution to the federation from every gallon of fuel sold at Sol stations in the British Virgin Islands. Funds go towards the expenses associated with training, travel and competition.
The Royal BVI Yacht Club benefits from a collaboration between Sol and Nanny Cay Marina where a contribution from every gallon of fuel sold at the marina is made towards the running of the youth sailing programme. The donations received from this partnership are used by the RBVIYC to progress youth sailing. Funding is used for sails, boats, ancillary equipment and coaching.
In addition to support for sports, Sol helps the Family Support Network (FSN) with much needed funding in its efforts to provide counseling and support to families, partners and single parents to resolve crises involving abusive relationships or financial and domestic stability.
"It is disheartening to read that the FSN has seen a decline in support this past few months," said Deborah. "But we remain committed to our financial pledge to benefit the Single Mothers' Fund."
