As part of Education Month 2013, The Ministry of Education organised two campaigns entitled, 'Give a Book' and 'Drop Everything and Read'.

On September 9th, 2013 everyone was encouraged to read a book, a magazine or any form of reading material at 11:00 AM. General Manager of SOL Guyana Inc., Mr. Orlando Boxill responded to the call and conducted a reading session at the St. Anne’s Primary School, complete with a presentation of brand new textbooks.

Both the students and teachers of St. Anne's Primary School were thrilled to receive the generous donation from Sol. The General Manager also encouraged the children by reading a very famous Dr. Seuss story 'The Cat in the Hat'. He reiterated the importance of reading and shared an inspiring quote from the same author, "The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go".

Sol subscribes to the view that education has leverage and the best way to exert it, is by helping, encouraging and promoting reading. Over a year ago, Sol responded to the need for a functioning library at the St. Anne’s Primary School, by refurbishing their library room, making it user friendly because a good and comfortable environment is very much conducive to reading. The company therefore continues to support and enhance the library at the school.

Mr. Boxill confirmed his support for the reading initiative and reaffirmed Sol’s commitment to community development. He remarked, “Our vision is to reenergise the habit of reading in our young people, thus developing a community of readers, one book at a time. Sol continues to support projects such as this reading campaign, which helps to enrich the lives of people in the communities where we live and work. We believe that reading to children should be an everyday task. Inspire a child today! Reading brings hope for a brighter tomorrow”.
