Students of the Carnival and Kings Basic Schools in West Kingston are now enjoying an enhanced early childhood experience following a recent investment of school supplies donated by Sol Jamaica, the local Shell Lubricants Macro Distributor.
The gift of educational materials including writing, colouring and activity books, along with pencils, erasers, sharpeners, rulers, and crayons should serve the children and their teachers well for some time to come, but nothing will be more etched in their memories than the wonderful fun shared at the presentation event.
Robert Jackson, General Manager of Sol Jamaica, said the company was proud of its social partnerships and investment in education.
“Sol continues to be a responsible and dedicated corporate citizen and Sol Jamaica is proud of several social investment partnerships which we have formed during the past year such as the UWI Mona Scholarship Programme, the Jamaican German Automotive School and now with the Kings & Carnival Basic Schools. We will continue to take the lead as your corporate partner in education and other areas, serving the communities in which we operate,” Jackson said.
It was a day filled with bright smiles, laughter and hugs as the young students showed their appreciation for the timely gesture from Sol Jamaica, and especially for the joyous time spent getting to know members of the company’s management and staff, who were also ably assisted by Member of Parliament for West Kingston, Mr Desmond McKenzie and his team.
Immersing themselves in the exciting activities, the children enjoyed bounce-a-bouts, clowns, face painting, and balloon art, as the grounds of the Carnival Basic School took on an authentic playground atmosphere, complete with the usual favourite snacks such as hotdogs, tasty drinks, and ice cream.
Karoline Smith, Marketing Implementer, Sol Jamaica said the company aimed to give back to its communities and was also pleased to support the efforts of the teachers and principals at both schools.
“Sol is a company which is focused on building communities, we pride ourselves on giving back and so we are pleased to be able to treat these 175 students at two early childhood schools. In August we will host 200 more students in yet another community. We are also delighted that the Member of Parliament of West Kingston, Mr Desmond McKenzie and the school teams were able to assist in coordinating this effort,” Smith said.
Andrea Williams, Principal of Carnival Basic School sincerely thanked Sol on behalf of both educational institutions:
“We express our profound gratitude and thanks for Sol’s expression of love and care. It’s sure that occasions such as this are exceptional for us at Carnival, and so we are grateful, and hope that we can look forward to many more such experiences. ”
