SOL SPONSORS BVIAA AWARDS CEREMONY 

In conjunction with Sol and Road Town Wholesale, the BVI Athletics Association will kick off its 40th anniversary activities on Friday, April 30 at Government House, by recognizing past Virgin Islands Secondary School Victor and Victrix Ludorums, between 1957-1970.

The association—which was formed on September 19, 1970—will use the activities reflecting on the past, highlights the current and looks towards the future, and educate on the development of the sport over the last 40 years.  

The distinguished list of Victor and Victrix Ludorums include; Edris Christopher-O-Neal, (Premier’s Wife) the first athlete to win four successive Victrix Ludorums 1957-1960 and one of only three athletes to win four straight between 1957 and 2010.

Other notables have bagged inter-house titles include: Deputy Governor Inez Hodge-Archibald, Supervisor of Elections Juliette Penn; Former Legislative Council member, Walwyn “GM” Brewley; Former Clerk of the Legislative Council, Arlington Hodge; retired educator Dr. Quincy Lettsome; Attorney Cecil Dawson; Businessman Roger Mathavious Sr., Former Banco Popular Branch Manager, Sandra Turnbull-Scatliffe.

The reception will include a cheese and wine tasting, with proceeds going towards athletes services. Tickets for the event which go on sale from Friday at the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, costs $20 and can also be obtained from the BVI Athletics Association at 541-3545.
Other anniversary activities planned include the production of a book incorporating past publications, highlighting the contributions of athletes and administrators of the development of the sport since 1970. Recognition of athletes, coaches, administrators and officials; hosting of the OECS Half Marathon in November and the CAC Age Group Championships in 2011.
