The two raffle winners’ names were drawn and announced at the awards ceremony on the final day of the regatta. The Sol prize of a 5 day / 6 night, skippered BVI charter on a Moorings 413 was won by Mrs Claudia Batesole. Mrs Gillian Plaxton won a week’s stay at the Bitter End Yacht Club. Both winners are BVI residents.
The raffle tickets were sold around the regatta village by RBVIYC members and young club sailors. The sales generated over $4000 which will go towards purchasing equipment for the BVI youth sailing team.
“The BVI Spring Regatta was the perfect opportunity to action our recent pledge to support the RBVIYC junior sailors’ programme,” said Deborah Benjamin, country manager for Sol. “The raffle sale was well received by the public, the organizers were happy with the outcome and we were pleased to be a major supporter in raising funds for these young sailors. Our participation ties in with Sol's commitment to be a part of the efforts to grow community youth sports and complements our existing, successful partnership with the BVI Athletic Association to help the territory’s athletes.
”Visitors to the Sol tent also were invited to enter a free, Sol ‘door prize’. Five daily winners were drawn every night from Friday, April 1 through Sunday, April 3. Prizes included Sol gift packs, fuel vouchers and cases of engine oil.
