BVI youth sailors get set to sail with help from Sol and Nanny Cay April 30, 2011
"It's a pleasure to actually watch the children on the water and appreciate what our contribution helps the RBVIYC achieve," said Ms Benjamin. "Sailing is an activity that should be part and parcel of living in the BVI and we staunchly support the efforts to expand the experience to the young sailors of this community."
The youngsters were happy to welcome the two managers and to discuss the mechanics of collecting the contribution.
"That's really neat," said Jacques Liegeard, a young RBVIYC sailor. "Imagine what that would mean if all the marinas joined in with making a donation!"
The donations received from this partnership are used by the RBVIYC to progress youth sailing. Funding is used for sails, boats, ancillary equipment and coaching. For the last ten days, guest coach, Omari Scott has been in the BVI to prepare the young sailors planning to participate in the BVI Dinghy Championships.
The annual sailing event is open to all age sailors and takes place in Sea Cows Bay from April 30 through May 1. The RBVIYC is expecting sailors from St Thomas and St Croix to take part. More information on the event is available on www.royalbviyc.org.
