Sol retail stations officially launched in the British Virgin Islands

Senior delegates from the Sol’s Head Office located in Barbados joined country manager, Deborah Benjamin, at a formal luncheon in Tortola to present the rebranded Sol retail stations to the public. Also in attendance were the honorable Premier Ralph T. O'Neal and Mrs Edris O'Neal.

"The new face of Sol is a symbol of our renewed commitment to you," said Mr. Andrew Rollins, Finance Director of the Sol Group. "From 2005 Sol has endeavoured to grow the business through effective and responsive customer relationships while investing in the region. Our corporate goal is to further align ourselves with special interest groups like the BVI Athletics Association to assist in further development of the communities where we do business."

Through its partnership agreement, Sol makes a contribution to the BVIAA from every gallon of fuel sold at the Sol retail stations in the BVI. Mrs Benjamin highlighted the success of the programme by presenting Dean Greenaway, president of the BVIAA, and two of the BVI's Sol national record breaking athletes, Karene King and Omar Jones with a quarterly cheque for $2,500.

Guest speaker Premier O'Neal congratulated Sol on its success as a regional company: "It's good to see Caribbean people having a stake in companies like Sol and I hope it will continue to grow and develop," he said. The Premier went on to thank Sol for its support of the BVI's athletes and its efforts in other areas.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the Botanic Station later in the afternoon when Mr Rollins and station manager, Mr Henry Kettle, symbolically launched the Sol retail brand.

Junior athletes were on site to help distribute Sol branded gifts to patrons of the Botanic Station. Visitors to the Wickham's Cay I station in Tortola and Stevens Service Station in Virgin Gorda were also treated to Sol gifts and live entertainment.

Sol is the largest petroleum company in the BVI and supplies the marine community at Hodges Creek, Nanny Cay Marina, the Moorings, Village Cay, Bitter End, Biras Creek, Peter Island, Guana Island, Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour and Leverick Bay. Sol is a committed supporter of other community initiatives including the BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival, VISAR and the Glass Project.
