“Sol is proud to be a consistent supporter of the BVI Athletics Association,” said Ms Benjamin. “We partnered with the BVIAA in the summer of 2009 and our financial contribution to date is $20,000. The sponsorship enables the progression of the BVI’s athletes in the local and international arena. We are especially pleased to be here to welcome and congratulate these young athletes on their achievements at the 40th Lime Carifta Games.”
Nelda Huggins brought home the bronze in the Under 17 Girls 100 meters. Six of the athletes recorded personal bests and broke national, youth and scholastic records. Kanishque Todman, Tarique Moses and Lakeisha Warner will receive Sol national record breakers awards during the BVI Athletics Association third Athletes Awards Recognition Gala, later this year.
The participating athletes in the Carifta Games Under 17 division were Tarika Moses, Lakeisha “Mimi” Warner, Nelda Huggins, Taylor Hill, Tarique Moses and Jayden Cline. The Under 20 athletes were J’Maal Alexander and Kanishque Todman.
Ms Benjamin reminded the public that they support the athletes of the BVI every time they fuel up at the Sol service stations. The BVIAA receives a contribution from every gallon of fuel sold at Sol service stations in Tortola and Virgin Gorda.
