Sol and all Barbadians are celebrating the return of the coveted Sol Rally Barbados title to local shores, after Sol’s champion driver Roger “The Sheriff” Skeete rode a wave of national support to claim his 13th title in 25 years of the competition.
Partnered by longstanding co-driver Louis Venezia, Skeete used his vast experience to pilot the Sol/LIME/Simpson Motors/Michelin/Williams Trading Inc Subaru Impreza WRC S12 to a convincing victory after the challenging three-day rally.
By the end of day 2 news spread overnight that Skeete had taken a commanding lead, celebrations erupted at Bushy Park and across the island on Sunday. Barbados’ most decorated rally driver was the toast of the town even before he was declared provisional winner of the Caribbean’s largest annual motor sport International late in the evening.
Skeete was congratulated by fans and competitors alike, but there was none happier than his primary sponsor Sol. Ezra Prescod, General Manager of SOL (BARBADOS) LTD, said the company was elated with the result, noting that Skeete was a deserving winner and outstanding ambassador for the leading energy company.
“Sol Rally Barbados 2014 has been an overwhelming success, and Roger’s victory has made it all the more special as we can celebrate the return of the title to Barbados. Roger has been a superb ambassador for Sol, exhibiting qualities of determination, skill and experience. These are values which Sol promotes and we are therefore proud of our continued association with Roger – Barbados’ champion!”
The 2014 season has indeed been special for Skeete who picked up several other domestic titles on his way to being crowned champion of Sol Rally Barbados.
Commenting on Sol’s continued support, Skeete said he saw Sol’s support as integral to his lifting of the Sol Rally Barbados 2014 title.
“It’s a great feeling bringing the Sol Rally Barbados title back home. I’m grateful for the support I received from friends, family, motorsport fans, my co-driver Louis Venezia, and sponsor Sol. This would certainly not have been possible without Sol’s sponsorship and I’m extremely happy that I’ve been able to justify their faith in me” Skeete said.
