The Sol Optimist Love Walk, held on Sunday 12th February in Barbados proved a successful event with good weather and people of all ages participating in the 5K walk.

Participants congregated at the Bay Street Esplanade to take part in an effort to raise funds for the Optimist Club of Barbados South’s Childhood Cancer Campaign, who support Barbadian children with cancer.

As part of Sol’s 7th anniversary celebrations, the company partnered with the Optimist Club of Barbados South to support the care of children with cancer and acknowledge community support they have received over the years.

The walk began promptly at 4pm, with an official cutting of the ribbon by Honorary Secretary of The Barbados Cancer Society; Dr. Dorothy Cooke-Johnson in the presence of SOL CARIBBEAN LTD. Marketing & Communications Coordinator Gina Cummins and OCBS Club President Michael Jules.

The cheerful atmosphere amongst the walkers initiated support from pedestrians and drivers who waved and sounded their car horns to encourage the walkers along the route.

Chairperson of the Childhood Cancer Campaign, IPP Yvette Berry stated the Committee was very pleased with the support shown by Corporate Barbados and Barbadians in general and extends a heartfelt thanks to all who supported the cause.

Gerard Cox, CEO of Sol Caribbean, who also participated in the walk with his family expressed his gratitude to the many who came to support such a worthy cause “It is fantastic to see so many people join us on this beautiful day to support the Optimist Club of Barbados. I have a great respect for their valuable work with organisations who care for and research effective treatments for childhood cancer.”
