The pair of Chris Armstrong and Wayne Clarke showed just why they are reigning MudDogs champions, with a record-setting victory last weekend after a grueling and exciting contest in the Sol Go Further June Safari Rally.

The effervescent pair, driving a well-prepared Toyota Hilux, joined the elite club of four-time winners, while their triumph put Clarke ahead in the honor roll as the only competitor to have won the event a record six times.

The victory was even sweeter for the resilient and experienced duo, as it was the first time they returned to competition after Armstrong suffered an injury to his back that forced them to sit out recent MudDog events.

Applauded by fellow competitors and fans, Armstrong and Clarke were justly rewarded for their efforts when Ezra Prescod, Country Manager for SOL (BARBADOS) LTD, presented them with their trophies during a ceremony held Monday evening at the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association, Searles, Christ Church.

Prescod heartily congratulated all competitors in the Safari, and noted that Sol was very pleased with the investment it had made for the second year running in the Sol Go Further June Safari Rally, part of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Chefette MudDogs Safari Championship.

“It really has been a pleasure working with the Mud Dogs in developing a partnership which has deepened over the past two years between the Barbados Rally Club Mud Dogs and Sol, particularly when it comes to motoring and motor sport. This year we have certainly seen the results of the hard work put in by the organisers in what was a flawless and enjoyable event. We certainly look forward to another great event next year.”

Also addressing the presentation ceremony, Mud Dogs Chairman, Darnley Rayside, congratulated and thanked Sol for its tremendous support of the event, which he noted had been well planned by route-setters, Leslie Alleyne and Chris O’Neal, the 2012 winners.

“We are absolutely pleased with the support from Sol; they have really gone further and put a lot of effort into this event, and we see this as a relationship that can mature even further,” Rayside stated.

The longest event in the MudDogs calendar, the Sol Go Further June Safari Rally started at Sol Redman’s Village at 3.00pm on Saturday 29th, with crews tackling four routes spread far and wide across the island, before the finish and breakfast on Sunday.
