On Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Shell Warrens, 21 persons were on hand to receive their Shell V-Power fuel vouchers valued at Bds$200, as part of the culmination of the 10 week promotion, before all attention was focused on what turned out to be an exciting round robin grand prize event.
Seven individuals were drawn on Monday, March, 28, 2011 from among thousands of entries accumulated over the duration of the promotion, where Shell customers were given entry forms for every $40 spent in Shell V-Power or Shell Diesel.
These lucky individuals were then given the chance to draw for a total of seven prizes, including a range of appliances from Courts, along with groceries from Carlton and Emerald City Supermarkets.
After five intense and exciting rounds Mr. Nurse and Ms. Charlotte Wicks, who was drawing on behalf of Jason Croney, were the two winners remaining, but after the final draw only one could walk away with the $50,000 grand prize, and this turned out to be the man from Clapham, St. Michael.
Finding it hard to contain his elation Mr. Nurse took his time to compose himself before stating this was one of the most exciting days of his life:
“I’m still at a loss for words because this is an unbelievable prize and I am so very delighted to be the lucky winner. I have not made any plans for the money as yet, but I can guarantee it will be spent on something I most certainly enjoy and something I’ve always wanted to do, but it will definitely not be wasted. I want to thank Sol once again for putting on this promotion because this is something I will never ever forget.”
Sol’s Regional General Manager OECS, Roger Bryan, said the promotion was intended to add further value to their loyal customers and with this is mind they wanted to offer a prize which persons could instantly relate to:
“The thousands of entries received suggest the prize of $50,000 was certainly an attractive one and appreciated by patrons. We wish to extend congratulations to Mr. Nurse on being the grand prize winner and thank the motoring public for choosing Shell V-Power.”
The other six winners all still had something to smile about, with Mr. Croney being the recipient of Bds$12,000 worth of groceries from Carlton and Emerald City Supermarkets, while Tyrone Forde, Marissa Armstrong, Judy Wilkinson, Niki Farmer, and Adam Browne went home with top of the line appliances from Courts, including a refrigerator, stove, dryer, washing machine, each produced by Whirlpool, along with a 40 inch LCD television.
(L-R) Elvis Nurse happily collects the grand prize of $50,000 from Stephen Howell, Lubricants Manager, Sol (Barbados) Ltd; Denise Mendes, Retail Executive, Sol (Barbados) Ltd; and Roger Bryan, Regional Manager, Sol OECS.
